Then my own invoice: 185 euro a month for managed Woo, 300 orders. I can't say what that buys over a 25 euro server. What do you pay?

I'm using my own server for 40 euro and my time.

Hm. And when it breaks at 2 am, during the busiest saturday ever and there are no managed providers to call. Who fixes it then?

Nobody if it crashes at 2am at the most busy saturday of the year and it's a 40euros server.

That's where I have it on a freelancer so he's always available if there are incidents, a small retainer every month. Total ends up in _95euros.

The problem is when you pay for a plan you don't need because you don't have the traffic.

Well - what I pay doubled, because my hosting company ran out of the year deal. I only got to see it 3 invoices later because automatic payments - did it anyway. Just did the calculations:

Last year the first year price.

Now double that.

No support issues, no big complaints! I'm just a newby. I don't know what else they could do, but I still have no idea, what that money really gets. Anyway I'll stay with them, as they've done the first year deal - the rest I'll manage myself 🙂

Ah yeah: that's where you find out about all the stuff you forgot you paid for.

I went through some old data and found that for more than a year now I have been getting charges as if two separate shops. I have two copies of the old shop - both in staging mode.

Just to show how stupid that is, nothing ever happened with them; no testing; nothing, really. I still get charged as if thats an active shop.

And these copies of the shop are still in the staging mode. So nothing really changes, nothing is really used. But you pay.

Actually PHP updates! As far as I know I didn't ask for it, they are making it so that my shop doesn't go offline.

The last two upgrades went by with no input from me at all. And the shop stayed up and reachable.

What I see from this, is that my shop is online, it's up to date and it keeps working on it's own with no hassle from me.

If I host my shop myself and want to have all these features (or something like that) than it will cost me at least a bit of time, some knowledge and money.

Okay, so I had paid for a traffic level which was about ten times more then my actual, have one level down here with my provider.

So I'm saving 70 euro a month without any change.

Moved from managed to a server with service plan, 150 euro to 85 euro/month - but took two evenings and there was an error in a task I had set up and forgot. Lasted a whole week until I noticed, since no one else had noticed it.
