Woo email logging in core

This is gonna change my life. WooCommerce 10.9 is adding core logging of transactional emails; you'll see sent emails, failed ones and all the statuses in the admin now.

This means weekly guessing games (like the dog harness shop every monday getting thier order email) are history.

Please don't assume delivered from this log either, A sent status only indicates that the email left the shop.

Deliverability of the email after that isn't shown. The only thing we get is the failure part at a glance now.

This is the first thing Im going to check on client shops once 10.9 lands!

The log can tell you what the woocoomerce mailer was called with and if that call failed. It does NOT tell you that the mail is delivered to your inbox so you'll need the SMTP providers log for bounce/spam folder.

Indeed and that's the part that's shown: if the email were ever fired that's visible but Ive found that in most cases the email failed to be fired (because order status was updated etc) so that information is useful.

And yes: do need to follow this with SMTP log to find out delivery details.

One last thing that was on my mind: would it now be possible to drop the SMTP plugin with its separate email log once the version 10.9 has been installed?

Not a big thing in itself but sometimes when these weird email logging things have occurred I've been adding these new plugins to see what they can do.

No way. I won't drop SMTP. I need the SMTP plugin to be able to send the e-mails through an authenticated server.

This feature is now in beta, scheduled for a release on 23 June... I suggest you give it a try in a staging copy before you start to rely on it for your support requests.

In most cases that will end up being the wrong address the client entered.
