WooCommerce 10.8 will not install because my site is on 6.8

Here's what I've got. If you click on the WooCommerce plugin and you go to the 'Plugins' page, it says 'Update to Version 10.8'.

But if i try to install WooCommerce 10.8, I get an error. And that says that I need to update WordPress first.

The old agency taught me that turning off the automatic updates for the WordPress core was the safer choice. I don't know if that's true or not but they told me that.

Should I try to make the upgrade first to version 6.9 of WordPress or should I just skip to 7.0 and install 10.8?

Any suggestions?

As mentioned in the release notes, WooCommerce 10.8 requires WordPress version 6.9 or newer.

In order to update WooCommerce you need to update WordPress first.

You can backup your site and update directly to 7.0 now.

No good reason to go only to 6.9.

We've been using an old classic theme. With a child theme. In 7.0 there will be a redesigned admin mode, right? Are there also new AI functions? Does any of that change anything for a classic-theme shop like ours?

Yes you can keep using a classic theme on 7.0. Admin redesigns wp-admin only; AI will be in a new AI hub so not affecting the store.

Always recommended to create a staging first to update and to click through checkout. Any questions left?

I'm on another host and still have the same problem, so it is not the host.

You only need to change WordPress major versions yourself if your host will not upgrade automatically. Many hosts don't update on the same day that a new major release comes out (usually it is 2-3 weeks).

You have two options: Either, manually update your installation, or get support on your hosts to change to thier option to update your website.

Under Updates on your dashboard (Dashboard > Updates) you are still able to update yourself regardless if your host's automatic updater updates it or not.

I've taken a backup, updated WordPress core to 7.0 and updated WooCommerce straight to 10.8.1 One plugin told me there was an out of date template in the WooCommerce Status which went away after I updated the plugin itself. A test order came through successfully...

Since you got everything up to date now it can't hurt to activate again the automatic minor updates on the core now...

Then you don't have to worry about when 7.0.x has arrived and need a reminder.
