DigiD was unreachable for hours yesterday because somebody flooded it. And that's a government service with real money behind it.

I run a small WooCommerce shop for our hobby club. And because most members are Polish the site sits since 2010 at a Polish shared host, with nothing for this except what the host does by default.

Someone told me WP Rocket would keep the site up because pages are cached, but that isn't true for cart and checkout so if they would hit checkout the shop would be gone anyway.

If it happened to me, I'd probably just wait and refresh lol.

What do you have in place or do you just accept it could happen?

For a small shop it's usually possible to block most of it with a cheap or free proxy service...

But first check with your web host what they're already filtering. Many filter a lot more than they claim.

That sounds about right, hosts usually do more than they let on... Ours once blocked a traffic flood and we never even noticed.

Fair enough, I'll email the host this week before adding anything. What should I ask them though? Just whether they have anything in place against this kind of flood, or is there something more I should put to them?
