three wordpress updates in two days this week

Three WordPress updates landed in two days this week and one of them left a few shops showing a blank page. None of mine broke, but that's luck more than anything. I only found out because a client forwarded me a message from another store owner asking if their site was down too...

I've had auto updates on for minor releases on most of my client sites for years; it's always been fine and it means i'm not logging into 20 dashboards every week. Tbh I never really thought about it until now.

For a live shop that's taking orders every day, is it still worth leaving automatic updates on or does everyone here switch them off and update by hand after a few days?

Yea! I currently have them turned on for minor security releases only. The major ones i always do by hand.

So I wouldn't delay them on a live shop.

It feels a bit weird when a security fix has only been out a few hours and you're already running it, but a blank page for a few hours is still better than a known hole... A blank page I can fix.

A hole I might not even know about untill it's too late.

The big ones are different. There I want to look at the changelog first and have a moment to check the shop afterwards, so those I plan and do manually.

That is what I had until this week and after these updates I turned even those off.

I get why you'd switch them off after a week like this, but I'm going the other way. Security releases stay on. The big ones I do by hand. Same setup as evan!
