Anyone On Woo 11.2 Yet?

Woo 11.2 landed yesterday and I put it on staging for two client shops this morning.

The CSV importer now matches rows by GTIN, which for the coffee shop means I can finally stop fixing SKUs the roaster keeps renaming, because the barcode on the bag never changes and the SKU changes every season.

Withdrawal request emails are in too. Small, but a client asked for exactly that in May.

Watch this one! Shop managers can't edit users who have extra roles any more, so if your client's staff account is manager plus something, you need to check who can still edit whom.

And there is an advisory about PublishPress Future in the notes, I'm not sure yet what it breaks 🙂

Why a .0 at all ? Staging or not, I never put a .0 on the live shop, because the first two weeks after a Woo release the GitHub issues page fills up with things nobody caught in beta and then the .1 comes anyway.

I have it set to wait. You could just do the same and update in November.

The shop manager thing bit us already, on the first day. Three client shops went to 11.2 on Tuesday, two of them nothing. The third one the manager (the owner's daughter. She does the customer service) suddenly got "you can't edit this user" on half the customers.

Took me an hour to see the pattern. Those customers also had an Ultimate Member role from the loyalty thing we set up in 2023 so Woo now treas them as users with extra roles and locks the manager out.

The fix is a filter, woocommerce_shop_manager_editable_roles. You add the extra role to the list and she can edit them again. One snippet, five lines.

So "more secure by default" is true but its also a change you only find when a client calls. Check your roles before you update.

The email part of the notes is what I'm stuck on, not the GTIN. One of my smaller clients runs a tiny shop next to the blog and the bookkeeper gets a Bcc on every new account email, that was set in the Cc/Bcc fields under the email settings in 11.1, and the changelog on https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/releases mentions those fields moving around but doesn't say what happens to values that are already there.

Is that still working for anyone after the update? This happens when a setting gets rebuilt. The UI looks new and the old value quietly goes nowher - and I'd rather hear it here than from the bookkeeper in two weeks when she notices nothing came in. Not touching it before I know.

Which host is that small shop on and is it already on 11.2 or still 11.1? Because I tested exactly this on staging for the coffee shop last night, after your post made me nervous about our own setup.

Short version: the Bcc is gone for that one. On 11.2 the saved Cc/Bcc values are still in the database and still show in the settings, but for three emails they are ignored, new account, reset password and the confirm email address one. I made a test account. The owner's Bcc on new account mail did not arrive. The order emails with the same Bcc arrived fine.

So nothing broke silently on the order side. Only the account mails.

And I'm pretty sure this is on purpose not a bug because those three carry a login link or a reset link and a copy of a reset link sitting in the bookkeeper's inbox is a key to the customer's account, which is a weird thing to hand out on purpose.

You can get it back! The recipient filters for those emails still work so a dev can add the bookkeeper their in a snippet.

I'd not do it for the reset mail though. For new account I'd think about it, for reset I wouldn't.

I asked the bookkeeper this morning what she even does with the new account mails. Nothing. She only wants to know when money comes in - so I'm putting her on the new order email instead and leaving the account mails alone. Simpler than a snippet.

Has anyone looked at the withdrawal emails yet, or did everyone skip to the GTIN bit? For a shop selling in the EU that's the one feature in 11.2 that matters, because until now every shop I touched handled the 14 day withdrawal with a contact form and a template reply somebody wrote in 2020. I spent one evening on it for the necklace client, about two hours, most of it on the wording and not on the settings. You want to open WooCommerce > Settings > Emails, find the new withdrawal ones, switch them on and hit preview before you trust the default text, the default is correct but reads like a lawyer. The docs page for it is on woocommerce.com under Emails.

Waiting for the .1 only works if you also read the notes while you wait. The .0 is not the thing that takes shops down, the advisories are, and those are in the release post from day one for anyone who scrolls past the emoji.

Look at Turkan's shop this week. Her timed sales run on PublishPress Future, the 11.2 notes said that exact combination has a problem, and the shop still went down because nobody on her side read it befor the update went through, so the .1 wouldn't have saved her at all...

You have to check your own plugin list against the advisory. That's the part people skip, not the version number.
